In gewisser Weise sind nicht nur unsere Autos, sondern alle Maschinen, die wir bauen, Spiegel unserer Sehnsüchte und der Art und Weise, wie wir über uns selbst und unser Verhältnis zur Welt nachdenken. Während wir scheinbar Fortschritte machen, werden die von uns gebauten Autos immer sicherer, künstlich intelligenter, autonomer und vernetzter, aber vor allem werden sie genau wie wir Menschen exponentiell mehr in ihrer Anzahl. Kraftfahrzeuge sind in gewisser Weise das ultimative Stereotyp für ein kapitalistisches Versprechen – auf einen wahr gewordenen Traum, mit einem potenziellen Albtraum in seinem Gefolge.

Die Ausstellung Autofocus Fokus_Auto #2 hat zum Ziel, dieses Massenbeförderungsmittel in allen seinen Facetten kritisch wie ironisch möglichst vielschichtig zu beleuchten. Autofocus Fokus_Auto #2 schliesst inhaltlich an eine Ausstellung mit dem gleichen Titel von 2010* an, welche anlässlich des Europäischen Monats der Fotografie das Automobil in der Fotografie / im Film zum Thema hatte.

In a sense not only our cars, but all the machines that we build are mirrors of our own desires and of the ways in which we think about ourselves and our relationship to the world. While we seem to be making progress, the cars we make are becoming safer, more artificially intelligent, more autonomous, and increasingly networked, and above all they are becoming exponentially more numerous, just as is humankind itself. In a way, automobiles are the ultimate stereotype for the promise of capitalism. This is a promise of a dream come true, with a potential nightmare following on its heels.

The aim of the exhibition Autofocus Focus_Auto #2 is to illuminate this means of mass transportation in all its facets, critically and ironically, in as many layers as possible. Autofocus Focus_Auto #2 follows on from an exhibition with the same title from 2010*, which focused on the automobile in photography/film on the occasion of the European Month of Photography.
